Wildcat Softball has exceeded all expectations for this year. Back in early March, the Wildcats won their preseason opener against East 17-1 and won two days later against Highland 14-0. We then took part in the March Warm-Up Tournament where we had a good start beating an out of state team, Bonanza, Nevada, but had rough patch to end the tournament, dropping two in a row.
Following the tourney we played two more out of state teams and went 1-1 against them and finished the preseason on a high note, winning two in a row, both by overwhelming numbers. Our season opener was against the Braves. Bountiful led most of the game until Woods Cross tied it up in the top of the 7th at 3-3, only to see Bountiful take the lead in the bottom of the same inning. Bountiful won 4-3. We quickly rebounded the next game and blew East out 18-2 with Mariah Maestas as the hot hand on the mound while Kirstin Adamson had two doubles.
The girls softball team went on to have a great season after that earning impressive victories over Region rivals including East and Highland. The Wildcats beat Highland 23-0 in one game scoring twenty-two runs in the third inning. Alex Flygare had a double and Manni Johnson belted a homerun.
Woods Crossed finished 13-13 overall and 7-9 in Region earning then the #4 Seed in the State Tourney. They played at Salem Hills, the #1 Seed from Region 8. They kept us scoreless through five innings, beating us 11-0.
The Wildcats will play tomorrow in a consolation game against Skyline at Woods Cross at 4 P.M. Come support them!
